The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice will host a workshop Oct. 17-18 in Washington, D.C., on health system interventions to prevent firearm injury and death. The workshop will feature evidence and best practices and examine opportunities to improve efficacy by working with communities. Speakers will include representatives from AHA and Kaiser Permanente. Firearm injuries account for nearly $3 billion in emergency department and inpatient care each year and are the third-leading category of injury-related deaths, the board notes.
