Survey: Premiums for employer-sponsored family coverage up 5% in 2019
The average annual premium for employer-sponsored family health coverage rose 5% this year to $20,576, including employer and worker contributions, according to the latest annual survey of employer-sponsored health insurance by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The average annual premium for single coverage increased 4% to $7,188. In comparison, workers’ wages rose 3.4% and inflation rose 2% over the same period, the report notes. About 82% of covered workers have a general annual deductible for single coverage, which averaged $1,655, about the same as last year but twice what it was a decade ago.
